Privacy Policy
1. What Page Translator does
Page Translator is a Chrome extension that translates visible text on the webpage you are currently viewing. You choose a target language, the extension reads eligible visible text from the active page, requests translations, and replaces the text with the translated result. You can restore the original text afterward.
2. Information processed
Webpage text. To perform a translation, the extension reads visible text nodes on the active webpage. The current MVP sends those text snippets to Google's public web translation endpoint. This means content selected for translation may be transmitted to Google and processed according to Google's applicable terms and privacy practices.
Language preference. The extension stores your selected target language using Chrome's extension storage. The supplied code does not create a Page Translator account or store a user profile on a Page Translator server.
No built-in analytics. The supplied extension code does not contain an analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or Page Translator tracking service.
3. Permissions
The extension requests activeTab, scripting, and storage. The activeTab permission provides temporary access to the current tab after a user action; scripting is used to run the translation and restore functions in that tab; storage is used to remember the target language.
4. Data retention
The extension does not include a Page Translator backend that stores translated webpage text. Temporary data used during translation exists in the browser and in the third-party translation request. The selected language remains in Chrome extension storage until it is changed or removed by the browser/user.
5. Third-party services
The current MVP uses Google's public translation endpoint. Google is an independent third party, and its handling of information is governed by Google's own policies. Before a commercial release, the developer should replace the public endpoint with an officially supported translation API and review the resulting data-processing terms.
6. Security
No software can guarantee absolute security. Users should avoid translating confidential or highly sensitive content unless they are comfortable with the third-party translation service receiving the text required to provide the translation.
7. Children's privacy
Page Translator is not specifically directed at children. Do not use the extension to process information you are not authorized to share with a third-party translation provider.
8. Changes
This policy may be updated when the extension, its providers, or its data practices change. The latest version will be published on this page.
